# Table Style Tweaks [中文说明](README.zh-CN.md) An Obsidian plugin that makes wide tables pleasant to read — without touching your readable line width. ## Features - **Minimum column width** — table cells stay on one line until their content reaches a configurable number of characters (default: 8). No more tables crushed into narrow, heavily wrapped columns. - **Break out of readable line width** — tables may use the full view width while paragraphs stay within the readable line width. Best of both worlds. - **Maximum table width** — cap how wide tables may grow (30–100% of the available width); content wraps beyond the cap. Adjust with a slider and watch tables resize live. - **Table alignment** — center (default), left-align, right-align, or stretch tables to the full available width. - **Horizontal scrolling that actually works** — when a table is wider than the view, it gets its own scrollbar that always reaches the very first and very last column. Headers and body never misalign (native table rendering is preserved). - **Slider + manual input** — numeric settings offer both a slider and a synced text field; out-of-range typing is ignored until complete. - **Bilingual UI** — the settings page follows Obsidian's display language (English / 简体中文). - Works in both **Reading view** and **Live Preview**; all settings apply instantly. ## Settings | Setting | Type | Default | |---|---|---| | Minimum column width | Slider (4–40 characters) | 8 | | Maximum table width | Slider (30–100%) | 100% | | Break out of readable line width | Toggle | On | | Table alignment | Center / Left / Right / Stretch | Center | ## How it works The plugin is intentionally minimal: it ships a small stylesheet (gated behind body classes) and sets Obsidian's official `--table-column-min-width` CSS variable. It does not re-render your tables, so header/body alignment is always guaranteed by the browser's native table layout. Disabling or uninstalling the plugin removes every trace of its styling. ## Installation ### From the community plugin store Settings → Community plugins → Browse → search for **Table Style Tweaks**. ### Via BRAT 1. Install the [BRAT](https://github.com/TfTHacker/obsidian42-brat) plugin. 2. Add the beta plugin with this repository's URL. ### Manual Copy `main.js`, `manifest.json`, and `styles.css` from the [latest release](../../releases/latest) into `/.obsidian/plugins/table-style-tweaks/`, then enable the plugin in Settings → Community plugins. ## Compatibility - Requires Obsidian **1.8.7** or newer. - Desktop only: `isDesktopOnly` is set to `true` because the breakout behavior has **not been verified on mobile** yet. ## License [MIT](LICENSE)
