# Emoji Search Insert emojis from a searchable picker or by typing a :shortcode. Open a picker with every emoji, or type `:smi` in a note and pick from a list. It works offline, in any note, on desktop and mobile. ![The Insert emoji picker with category tabs, a search field and a skin tone button](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/perezamadorluisenrique-gif/emoji-search/main/docs/screenshot.png) ## Usage **Picker.** Run **Emoji Search: Insert emoji** from the command palette, click the smiley in the ribbon, or right-click in the editor. There is no default hotkey: set one in **Settings → Hotkeys** if you want it. - Every emoji is on one scrolling page, in sections. The tabs jump to a section. - Search by name, keyword or shortcode (`party`, `thumbs`, `+1`), without accents, in any word order, or paste an emoji to find it. - Arrow keys move, `Enter` inserts, `Shift+Enter` inserts and keeps the picker open, `Esc` clears the search and then closes. - The hand button next to the search field sets your skin tone. Mouse and keyboard use the same one. - Frequently used emojis are listed first and rank higher in search and suggestions. - With several cursors or selections, it inserts at all of them in one step. In reading view it copies the emoji instead of editing your note. ![A list of emoji suggestions while typing :tad in a note](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/perezamadorluisenrique-gif/emoji-search/main/docs/suggest.png) **Typing.** Type a colon and two letters, like `:smi`, to see suggestions. `Enter` picks one; one undo gives back what you typed. Type the closing colon of a complete shortcode, `:tada:`, and it becomes 🎉; undo gives back `:tada:`. It stays out of your way: no suggestions in code blocks, inline code, math, links, URLs, HTML, Templater, frontmatter keys, times like `10:30` or table alignment rows. Frontmatter values and table cells work. ## Coming from Emoji Toolbar Emoji Toolbar is no longer updated. Emoji Search covers the same picker, with categories, search, recents and skin tone, and adds typing with `:shortcode`. Assign your old hotkey to **Emoji Search: Insert emoji**. ## Settings Skin tone, how many frequently used emojis to show, the editor menu entry, suggestions while typing (with how many letters to wait and how many to show), converting `:tada:`, and a switch to show emojis your device cannot draw. Those are hidden by default, so you do not see empty boxes; the check runs on your device and is not synced. ## Data Emoji names, keywords and shortcodes come from [emojibase-data](https://github.com/milesj/emojibase) (MIT), which carries the Unicode CLDR annotations. Nothing is downloaded: the plugin never uses the network. ## Installation In Obsidian, open **Settings → Community plugins → Browse** and search for "Emoji Search". ## More plugins by Siulved54 | Plugin | What it does | Source | | --- | --- | --- | | [Shared Blocks](https://obsidian.md/plugins?id=shared-blocks) | Write a block of text once and reuse it in any note.
